1st Building in Europe Fuelled by Green Hydrogen

Yorkshire has a new claim to fame. It is to be the first place in Europe to have a building fuelled solely by wind and "green" hydrogen power.
Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe and in the global quest for renewable and sustainable energy sources, Yorkshire Forward is leading the way with help from TNEI and the Pure Energy Centre.
After a four way pitch, TNEI and PURE were awarded the £2.3 million project to deliver this innovative power source for Yorkshire Forward's new Environmental Energy Technology Centre, EETC building in Rotherham, scheduled for completion later this year.
The development signals a UK first and highlights the potential for hydrogen to be used commercially as an energy resource.
A wind turbine will be installed on the site to generate electricity to power the building with excess electricity used to produce hydrogen using a state-of-the-art high pressure alkaline electrolyser. This element of the design has been developed by the Pure Energy Centre. Once generated, the hydrogen will be compressed and stored at high pressure in state of the art cylinders - another commercial first, with over 200kg stored in purpose built cylinders, creating the biggest single store of "Green" hydrogen in the UK.
