Head of Planning & Environmental Group
The Role
As Principal / Associate Director within the Planning and Environmental Group the new appointee will work within an exceptionally strong team of existing planning and environmental specialists.
The current client base is predominantly interested in wind projects and the experience of the team reflects this, however the Group is already diversifying into energy from waste and energy storage projects.
The key objective of the role is to take the lead in broadening the areas of activity covered by the Group and expand the team to meet the requirements of new business opportunities. In addition the role will take advantage of the robust base of industry, consultancy and management experience held by the candidate.
In the first instance, the role will involve the provision of a greater breadth of services to the existing client base developed by the Planning and Environmental and Energy Management Groups. There are however, significant growth areas within the sector that TNEI is keen to exploit.
Whilst the role will be based in Newcastle (although Manchester would be considered for the right candidate), TNEI is keen to expand the Planning and Environmental work undertaken within the Manchester and Woking offices and as such the successful candidate will have the ability to lead and develop a geographically dispersed team.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will lead a team with a proven track record of working with clients, from developers to public sector bodies and private sector businesses.
The Candidate
The successful candidate will:
- Be appropriately qualified and have 10 + years experience of undertaking and managing environmental consultancy work.
- Have a good knowledge of the environmental issues surrounding climate change, energy, project development and sustainable development.
- Understand
UK and EU standards, legislation and policy as they affect sustainable development, energy project development and energy management.
- Be someone who relishes a challenge and can combine entrepreneurial flair with being a team player, with strong inter-personal skills and the ability to express him/herself clearly, both orally and in writing. He/she will be capable of lateral and strategic thinking and have the presentational skills and confidence needed to deal directly with clients.
- Have business development/client management experience and the ambition and drive to grow his or her part of the business and take it into new areas.
- Have strong management experience in a consultancy environment, with a demonstrable track record as a team player. As a manager he or she will be open to discussion, able to manage diversity issues and to motivate staff, allowing them freedom of expression and room to develop, yet also able to ensure that the practice retains a clear sense of direction and purpose.
- Be willing to travel as required.
The successful candidate will be able to bring added value to the company immediately and should be able to broaden the company’s offering to clients. TNEI are looking for a very special individual, able to contribute positively and immediately to the company, to take over the leadership of an established team and to think ‘outside the box’.
