Renewable Feasibility Studies

With the recent announcement on Feed in Tariffs, renewable energy technologies have become a more attractive option with reduced pay back times. TNEI undertakes renewable energy feasibility studies which look at the potential of each site for the installation of a renewable technology. A variety of renewable energy technologies will be considered although not all will be appropriate. These will include:

• Wind energy – from small scale 1kW devices through to large scale turbines
• Photovoltaics
• Solar Thermal – generating hot water and/or heating
• Heat Pumps – both ground and air source to provide low grade heating
• Micro hydro
• Biomass boilers

Following an initial assessment of each technology, a feasibility study is produced.  The feasibility study  considers both the technical and economic viability of each technology, giving an indication of:

• Capital costs
• Installation costs
• Payback times
• Ongoing maintenance and operational costs
• Details of potential income and benefits from renewable energy generation, including Renewables Obligation Certificates (ROCs), Feed in Tariffs and Climate Change Levy Exemption Certificates (LECs)
• Potential suppliers for equipment
• Carbon dioxide emissions displaced
• Availability of fuel where relevant.

The feasibility report outlines the potential of each appropriate technology and will recommend a range of technologies to be considered. A summary of social, economic and environmental benefits is also provided. As part of the feasibility study, the availability of local and national funding streams for renewable energy technologies is investigated and, where appropriate, details provided to help access this financial support.
